Fintech major Razorpay, through its Malaysian arm Razorpay Curlec, has partnered with NPCI International Payments Limited (NIPL) to introduce Unified Payments Interface (UPI) payments in Malaysia. The collaboration will allow Indian travellers to pay Malaysian merchants directly via UPI apps, with transactions settled in Malaysian Ringgit (RM).
Simplifying Cross-Border Payments
The integration eliminates the need for cash or international cards, enabling real-time digital payments for Indian visitors. Malaysian merchants will receive instant settlements in their local currency through Razorpay Curlec’s platform. The company plans to extend UPI acceptance across retail, hospitality, travel, and small enterprises, strengthening digital payment adoption in Malaysia.
Boosting Tourism and Merchant Reach
In 2024, over one million Indian tourists visited Malaysia, spending more than Rs 110 billion during their stay. The new partnership aims to simplify payment experiences for this growing travel segment while expanding payment acceptance for Malaysian businesses catering to Indian tourists.
Expanding UPI’s Global Footprint
With 19.6 billion transactions processed in India in September 2025, UPI continues to lead digital payments innovation. The Malaysia launch marks a major step in NIPL’s international expansion, following earlier rollouts in Bhutan, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Mauritius, and Nepal, and new agreements in France, UAE, Qatar, Namibia, Trinidad and Tobago, and Peru.
Strengthening Razorpay Curlec’s Ecosystem
Razorpay Curlec already supports recurring payments, card transactions, billing, and subscription management for Malaysian businesses. Through this partnership, the company aims to expand its cross-border payment stack and connect local merchants to India’s vast UPI user base.
