Edtech Firm Strengthens Leadership Ahead of Global Expansion Plans
Edtech platform upGrad has appointed Mukesh Mundra as its new Chief Financial Officer, replacing Venkatesh Tarakkad, who had held the role for nearly two years.
Mundra brings over 26 years of experience across finance leadership roles spanning media, telecom, manufacturing, and consumer sectors. He is a chartered accountant and certified financial analyst.
Former JioStar and Viacom18 Finance Leader Joins upGrad
Before joining upGrad, Mundra led the finance division at JioStar. Earlier, he spent more than eight years as CFO at Viacom18.
His prior experience also includes leadership positions at Idea Cellular, Grasim Industries, and Anand Rathi Group.
According to upGrad, Mundra will oversee finance and administrative operations, including financial planning, governance, and business collaboration, while supporting the company’s international growth strategy.
Leadership Changes Continue Across Edtech Sector
The appointment comes during a broader leadership transition period for the company. Recently, Sumit Jain, co-founder of Unacademy and CEO of its test prep business, stepped down from his full-time executive role ahead of its acquisition by upGrad.
Commenting on the appointment, upGrad co-founder and chairperson Ronnie Screwvala said Mundra’s expertise in finance, governance, and business transformation would support the company’s long-term global growth roadmap.
The move comes as edtech firms increasingly focus on operational efficiency, profitability, and international expansion amid changing market dynamics.
