Airbound, an autonomous delivery logistics startup specialising in blended-wing-body aircraft, has raised $8.65 million in a seed funding round, marking a significant milestone in India’s drone logistics ecosystem. The round was led by Lachy Groom, with participation from Humba Ventures, existing investor Lightspeed, and senior executives from Tesla, Anduril, and Ather Energy.
With this latest round, Airbound’s total funding now exceeds $10 million. The company plans to utilise the capital to scale manufacturing, expand its reach beyond medical logistics, and refine its proprietary drone technology for large-scale market adoption by 2026.
Founded in 2023 by Naman Pushp, Airbound is developing advanced drones designed to revolutionize logistics by making deliveries faster, cheaper, and more sustainable. The company’s carbon-fibre manufacturing process enables high-volume production of drones that achieve a payload-to-aircraft mass ratio of 1:1.5, offering superior efficiency compared to conventional designs.
Airbound’s blended-wing-body tailsitter design merges the vertical takeoff and landing capabilities of quadcopters with the endurance and range of fixed-wing aircraft. This hybrid model eliminates the need for runways while maximizing aerodynamic efficiency—creating a scalable, borderless, and cost-effective supply chain solution for industries ranging from healthcare to e-commerce.
In a major step toward commercialization, Airbound has initiated a three-month pilot program with Narayana Health, one of India’s leading hospital chains. The partnership aims to complete 10 daily medical deliveries, including blood samples and diagnostic kits. This pilot serves as a proof of concept for high-reliability, real-world medical logistics—one of the most demanding drone delivery applications.
By combining advanced aerodynamics, AI-driven automation, and lightweight materials, Airbound is positioning itself at the forefront of next-generation logistics infrastructure for India and beyond.
