Jio Payments Bank, a subsidiary of Jio Financial Services, has won a contract to roll out a Multi-Lane Free Flow (MLFF) tolling system on the Gurugram–Jaipur highway stretch, marking a significant step forward in India’s transition toward seamless, high-speed toll collection.
Under this agreement with Indian Highways Management Company Limited (IHMCL)—the toll operations arm of NHAI—Jio Payments Bank will deploy an ANPR-based FASTag MLFF system at two toll plazas Shahjahanpur and Manoharpura, enabling vehicles to pass without stopping or slowing down. This marks Jio Payments Bank’s acquisition of two out of the five MLFF contracts awarded so far.
Since July 2025, the bank has been active in FASTag-based toll operations and currently manages transactions at 11 toll plazas as an acquirer bank across various highway corridors.
“Our expansion into the tolling ecosystem is a natural progression of our mission to digitise everyday payments and build smart financial infrastructure at scale,” said Vinod Easwaran, MD & CEO of Jio Payments Bank.
What This Means for India’s Tolling & Mobility Landscape
- The adoption of MLFF tolling technology aligns with India’s objective to modernize highway infrastructure, reduce congestion, and deliver frictionless mobility.
- ANPR and FASTag integration allow automated vehicle classification and billing, reducing operational overheads and improving throughput.
- Jio Payments Bank’s broader footprint in toll operations positions it as a key player in the convergence of payments and infrastructure.
- With its growing role in highway payment systems, Jio is leveraging its digital payments infrastructure to augment India’s smart-transport ambitions.
As India accelerates its infrastructure upgrades, innovations like MLFF will play a crucial role in enhancing efficiency, reducing travel times, and enabling seamless payment experiences for millions of highway users.
