Started in 2000, Dharohar Folk Dance has grown into one of Udaipur’s most celebrated cultural experiences, completing 25 years this October. Conceived by Deepak Dixit, the daily evening show was among the first to introduce the concept of “evening tourism” in the city an idea that changed how travellers experienced Rajasthan.
At the Heart of Bagore ki Haveli
Hosted every evening in the courtyard of Bagore ki Haveli the headquarters of the West Zone Cultural Centre the show brings together the vibrant dance and music traditions of Rajasthan. Each performance celebrates the diverse regional and ethnic expressions of the state, preserving its folk legacy in the most authentic way possible.
A Legacy in Numbers
In its 25-year journey, Dharohar has welcomed more than 20 lakh visitors, both Indian and international, and has been recognised by travel platforms like TripAdvisor as Udaipur’s best tourist attraction. Beyond entertainment, it has empowered three generations of folk artistes by providing stable livelihoods and a platform to perform year-round.

Preserving Art Through Change
Long before social media, promotion relied on word-of-mouth through hotels, travel guides, and local communities. During the COVID-19 lockdowns, when tourism came to a halt, Dharohar adapted quickly by launching online dance and puppet classes, ensuring that the artistes continued to earn and perform.
The Founder’s Vision
To settle nomadic artistes in Udaipur, Dixit even arranged housing for them and their families in his ancestral home a gesture that turned a cultural project into a social mission.
A Note of Gratitude
A heartfelt thank you to Dr. Vishwas Mehta, for his vision, and to all the Directors and staff of the West Zone Cultural Centre for their continued support in promoting Rajasthani Folk Art across the world.
Final Take
For 25 years, Dharohar Folk Dance has stood as more than a show it’s a living movement keeping Rajasthan’s rhythm alive, one evening at a time.
