AJIO, the fashion commerce platform owned by Reliance Retail, has appointed former Coupang Taiwan country head Sandeep Karwa to a leadership role, according to sources familiar with the matter.
Karwa is expected to take over as CEO of AJIO, while current CEO Vineeth Nair is likely to transition into a broader strategic role within Reliance Retail’s fashion and lifestyle business.
Leadership Transition Signals Broader Fashion Strategy
Sources indicate that Nair may take on expanded responsibilities across the fashion vertical, potentially including oversight related to Reliance Brands. While Karwa will lead AJIO’s operations, Nair is expected to remain involved at a strategic level.
Karwa has reportedly already been leading the platform for the past few weeks as part of the transition process.
Before joining AJIO, Karwa served as country head for Taiwan at South Korean ecommerce giant Coupang. Prior to that, he spent nearly 11 years at Flipkart, where he last served as Vice President of Flipkart Ads.
Competition Intensifies in Online Fashion Commerce
Karwa has also held board positions at Walmart India, Wildcraft, and Arvind Fashions.
The leadership change comes as Reliance Retail sharpens its focus on digital fashion commerce amid intensifying competition from platforms such as Myntra, Nykaa Fashion, and Tata CLiQ Fashion.
AJIO remains a key pillar in Reliance Retail’s fashion strategy, offering a mix of private labels, premium brands, and international fashion partnerships.
