Claude Maker Strengthens India Expansion with New Leadership Hire

AI safety and research company Anthropic has appointed Sangeeta Bavi as Head of Digital Natives, Startups and Growth for India.

In her new role, Bavi will lead Anthropic’s efforts to drive adoption of its AI assistant Claude among Indian startups and mid-market businesses.

Focus on Startup Ecosystem and Enterprise Adoption

Announcing the move through LinkedIn, Bavi said founders have played an important role throughout her career and described the new position as personally meaningful.

Before joining Anthropic, she served as Chief Operating Officer at YourStory, where she worked on operational transformation and revenue diversification initiatives.

Earlier, she spent several years at Microsoft, including as Director of Startup Business, where she helped build Microsoft’s startup ecosystem initiatives in India.

Anthropic Deepens India Presence

Anthropic has been aggressively expanding its India operations as the country emerges as a key market for AI adoption.

India is currently the company’s second-largest market for Claude, accounting for nearly 7.2% of global usage. The company is also preparing to launch its first office in Bengaluru to support local hiring and enterprise growth.

Earlier this year, Anthropic appointed Irina Ghose, former Managing Director of Microsoft India, to lead its India operations. In April, the company also brought in former Google executive Amlan Mohanty as Head of India Policy and External Affairs.

The appointments underline Anthropic’s growing focus on India’s startup ecosystem and enterprise AI market as competition intensifies among global AI firms.
