Uber is setting up its first data centre in India in partnership with Adani Group, marking a significant expansion of the ride hailing company’s technology and infrastructure presence in the country.
The development was announced by Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi after meeting Gautam Adani in Ahmedabad on Wednesday.
“India is fast emerging as a leading innovation hub for Uber,” Khosrowshahi said in a post on X, adding that the upcoming facility would help the company “test and deploy” technology at scale from India for global operations.
The move comes as Uber intensifies its focus on India, one of its largest and fastest growing international markets.
Khosrowshahi is currently on a five day India visit, during which he also met Nirmala Sitharaman to discuss Uber’s long-term investment roadmap in the country.
He additionally held discussions with former NITI Aayog CEO Amitabh Kant.
The partnership aligns with Adani Group’s broader push into digital infrastructure and data centre development through AdaniConneX, its data centre platform that has been expanding operations across several Indian cities.
AdaniConneX is currently developing large scale data centre infrastructure projects, including a major campus in Visakhapatnam.
Uber’s planned India data centre comes amid accelerating investments by global technology companies into India’s cloud computing and artificial intelligence infrastructure ecosystem.
Rising demand for localised data storage, AI processing capabilities, and the Indian government’s increasing emphasis on digital sovereignty and domestic data infrastructure are driving technology firms to build larger in-country operations.
The investment also reflects India’s growing importance as a global engineering, AI, and technology operations hub for multinational companies.
