Groww Begins Phased Rollout of US Stock Investing to Tap AI and Chip Wave

0

Groww has begun a phased rollout of US stock investing on its app, giving Indian retail investors access to global equities as the brokerage looks to tap rising demand for artificial intelligence, semiconductor and technology stocks. The feature went live for select users last week and is expected to reach all Groww users over the next month, according to sources cited by Moneycontrol.

The launch comes as Indian investors increasingly seek exposure to global technology companies amid relatively flat returns in parts of the domestic stock market. With the new offering, Groww is expanding beyond its core Indian investment products and entering a growing market for international investing.

Groww Partners With Alpaca Securities for US Stocks

Groww secured an International Financial Services Centres Authority (IFSCA) licence in July to facilitate global investing through GIFT City. For its US stock offering, the company has partnered with Alpaca Securities, a US-based brokerage infrastructure provider.

Through the new feature, Groww users can buy and sell US-listed companies directly through the app. The platform also supports fractional investing, allowing users to purchase a portion of a stock instead of an entire share.

The offering provides access to more than 10,000 US stocks and ETFs, including major technology companies such as Alphabet, Apple, Nvidia, Tesla, Amazon and Meta.

Growing Retail Interest in Global Technology Stocks

The rollout comes at a time when artificial intelligence and semiconductor companies have become major areas of interest for retail investors globally. US markets host several of the world’s largest technology companies, giving Indian investors access to businesses and sectors that have limited representation in domestic markets.

International investing also allows retail investors to diversify their portfolios geographically while gaining exposure to global companies and technology trends.

Groww Expands Beyond Its Mutual Fund Roots

Groww began as a mutual fund investment platform before expanding into stocks and other financial products. The company now has more than 2 crore active users, giving its international investing product a substantial potential customer base.

The US stock launch represents another step in Groww’s broader effort to build a wider investment ecosystem for Indian retail investors. Its large user base could also help accelerate adoption of overseas investing as the feature is rolled out across the platform.

Outlook

Groww’s entry into US stock investing comes as international markets, particularly the AI and technology sectors, attract increasing attention from Indian retail investors. Its partnership with Alpaca Securities, fractional investing capability and access to more than 10,000 stocks and ETFs give the platform a new route to serve that demand.

With more Indian brokers receiving GIFT City approvals, competition in international investing is likely to intensify. Groww’s phased rollout will now test how quickly its large retail user base adopts US equities and whether global investing can become a meaningful addition to its existing investment ecosystem.
