Historic Foray into Battery Energy Storage

The Adani Group has announced its entry into the Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) segment with a 1,126-megawatt project capable of storing 3,530 megawatt-hours (MWh) of energy. Scheduled for commissioning in March 2026, the installation will be India’s largest and among the world’s biggest single-location battery storage projects.

Based on lithium-ion battery technology, the project is currently in advanced development at Khavda, Gujarat, a key hub for Adani’s renewable energy operations.

“With this historic project, we are not only setting global benchmarks but also reinforcing our commitment to India’s energy independence and sustainability,” said Gautam Adani, Chairman of Adani Group.

Building India’s Energy Storage Future

The Group has outlined an ambitious roadmap to expand its energy storage capacity, targeting 15 gigawatt-hour (GWh) of BESS deployment by March 2027, and a long-term goal of 50 GWh over the next five years.

The BESS initiative will play a critical role in peak load management, grid stability, and renewable integration, enabling efficient use of solar and wind power. It supports India’s broader push toward net-zero emissions and energy self-reliance.

Strengthening Adani’s Clean Energy Portfolio

The Ahmedabad-headquartered conglomerate operates across energy, transport, logistics, metals, and materials, and continues to accelerate investments in green hydrogen, solar, and wind energy.

This foray into large-scale battery storage represents a strategic expansion of Adani’s clean energy ecosystem, marking another milestone in its mission to build a future-ready, decarbonised infrastructure for India.
