AI Infrastructure Startup Portkey Secures $15 Million to Scale AI Control Plane
Artificial intelligence applications platform Portkey has raised $15 million in a Series A funding round led by Elevation Capital, with participation from existing investor Lightspeed. The latest round follows Portkey’s $3 million seed funding raised in August 2023, also led by Lightspeed. The fresh capital will support expansion of its AI infrastructure platform and strengthen its enterprise go-to-market strategy.
Capital to scale AI governance and enterprise deployment capabilities
Portkey plans to use the funding to expand its AI control plane and improve support for agent-based systems. The company will enhance features such as permissions management, identity controls, budget monitoring, and performance optimisation for low-latency AI use cases. The investment will also help accelerate customer acquisition and global expansion efforts.
Building the operating layer for production AI systems
Founded by Rohit Agarwal, Portkey provides a unified control plane for production-grade AI applications. Its platform combines an AI gateway with governance, observability, reliability, and cost management capabilities. The system operates in the path of AI traffic, allowing enterprises to manage model usage, enforce compliance policies, and track costs in real time.
Rapid enterprise adoption and global usage scale
Portkey claims to process over 500 billion large language model tokens across 125 million requests daily. The platform manages more than $500,000 in AI spend each day for over 24,000 organisations globally, including customers such as Postman and Snorkel AI. The company has also made its enterprise gateway available for free to encourage early adoption of governance and monitoring tools.
