Why India’s Craft Beer Market Is Attracting Focused Capital

India’s craft beer and microbrewery sector is moving from experimental formats to scalable hospitality businesses. With urban consumption rising and premium experiences gaining traction, investors are increasingly backing differentiated brewery concepts rather than traditional bar-led models.

What the Funding Round Covers

Bengaluru-based microbrewery 33&Brew has raised ₹20 crore ($2.2 million) in a Series A funding round led by Optimistic Capital. The proceeds will be used for construction and expansion, as the company looks to deepen its physical footprint in the city.

The funding comes from Optimistic Capital’s recently announced ₹200 crore beer-focused fund. So far, ₹30 crore has been deployed across initial investments, with the remaining ₹170 crore planned for deployment over the next three years across craft beer–adjacent opportunities such as bottling, kegging, and brewery operations.

About 33&Brew and Its Concept

Founded in 2024 by Karthik Chandrasekaran, 33&Brew positions itself as a vinyl-themed microbrewery inspired by 33⅓ RPM records. The outlet combines craft beer with a curated vinyl record collection, allowing guests to select and play records during their visit.

The brand was conceptualised in collaboration with chef Sabyasachi Gorai and offers a progressive Indian menu with global influences, alongside craft beers, signature cocktails, and curated food pairings.

Competitive Landscape in Bengaluru

Bengaluru remains India’s most competitive microbrewery market, with multiple new formats launching each year. Differentiation through ambience, storytelling, and repeatable customer experiences is increasingly critical as regulatory caps limit aggressive outlet expansion.

Evergreen Insight: Experience-Led Breweries Are Scaling

The rise of theme-driven breweries like 33&Brew signals a shift toward experience-first hospitality. For founders, the opportunity lies in building strong brand identity alongside operational discipline to attract both consumers and sector-specialist capital.

Founder Takeaway
