Why Insurtech IPOs Are Back in Focus
After a prolonged slowdown in fintech listings, India’s capital markets are reopening to consumer-facing platforms with scale, improving revenues, and distribution depth. Insurtech, in particular, is seeing renewed interest as digital advisory models mature beyond pure lead generation.
What Turtlemint Has Filed
Insurtech firm Turtlemint has filed an updated draft red herring prospectus (DRHP) with the Securities and Exchange Board of India for its initial public offering. The filing comes a month after the regulator approved the company’s IPO plans.
The proposed IPO comprises a fresh issue of equity shares worth ₹660 crore and an offer for sale (OFS) of 2.86 crore shares.
Who Is Selling in the OFS
The OFS will be led by Nexus Venture Partners, which will offload 91.43 lakh shares, followed by Peak XV Partners with 79.21 lakh shares. Other selling shareholders include Jungle Ventures, Blume Ventures, GGV Ventures, and angel investor Kunal Shah.
Co-founders Anand Prabhudesai and Dhirendra Mahyavanshi will also participate in the OFS.
Business Model and Use of Proceeds
Founded in 2015, Turtlemint operates an insurance marketplace that connects advisors with customers across motor, health, and life insurance. It also offers mutual funds and loans, while providing advisors with digital tools to scale distribution.
Fresh proceeds will be used primarily for technology and product salaries (₹193 crore), investment in subsidiary TIB (₹129 crore), and cloud infrastructure, marketing, leases, and general corporate purposes.
Financial Snapshot
In H1FY26, Turtlemint reported operating revenue of ₹463.3 crore, nearly doubling year-on-year, while losses widened 27% to ₹126 crore.
Evergreen Insight
As public markets prioritise revenue visibility over hypergrowth, insurtech platforms with strong advisor networks and diversified financial products may find better IPO traction.
Founder Takeaway
Turtlemint’s filing signals that scaled fintech distribution models, even with near-term losses, are again finding a path to public markets in India.
