Parag Agrawal’s AI Startup Parallel Web Systems Raises $100 Million

AI infrastructure company Parallel Web Systems, founded by former Twitter CEO Parag Agrawal, has raised $100 million in a Series A funding round co-led by Kleiner Perkins and Index Ventures, with participation from Khosla Ventures and other existing investors.

The funding will be used to build web search infrastructure for AI agents, enhance content partnerships, and expand enterprise adoption across industries such as software, insurance, and data analytics.

Reinventing the Web for AI Agents

Founded in 2023, Parallel is building APIs that enable AI agents to search and retrieve live web data allowing them to access up-to-date, verified information to complete complex tasks.

Agrawal believes AI models need real-time web access to perform critical enterprise functions. “You can’t deprive an M&A lawyer from using the web so why would you deprive their AI agent?” he said in an interview.

Unlike traditional search engines designed for humans, Parallel’s system returns optimized content “tokens” that can be directly fed into AI models. This process enhances accuracy, reduces hallucinations, and lowers operational costs.

Creating a New Web Economy for the AI Era

With growing restrictions on AI web scraping due to paywalls and login barriers, Agrawal said Parallel plans to introduce an “open market mechanism” an economic model designed to incentivize publishers to keep their content accessible for AI systems.

The fresh capital will allow the company to “go all in” on product development, customer acquisition, and building equitable data partnerships with content owners.
