Why AI Hardware Is the Next Frontier for Indian Startups
As artificial intelligence matures beyond software applications, global focus is shifting toward hardware-native AI systems that operate continuously, contextually, and with minimal user friction. In India, this transition is still nascent, making intellectual property and deep engineering critical differentiators for early movers.
What the Patent Covers
Indian AI startup NeoSapien has secured a patent for its AI wearable Neo 1, marking a first for the country. The patent protects the company’s proprietary adaptive AI coaching system, which converts long-term goals into real-time, actionable micro-tasks. This positions NeoSapien among a small group of Indian startups building defensible IP in AI-driven personal assistance hardware.
Inside Neo 1 and the Technology Stack

Founded in 2024 by Dhananjay Yadav and Aryan Yadav, NeoSapien is developing a hardware-native AI ecosystem. Neo 1 is designed as a “second brain” that captures conversations and actions, processes them on-device, and generates contextual summaries and insights without interrupting workflow.
The wearable supports over 100 languages and blends contextual intelligence with intuitive hardware design. It pairs with iOS and Android devices, captures audio within a two-metre range, charges fully in under three hours, and delivers 2–3 days of battery life. Its form factor allows all-day wear with minimal user interaction.
Funding and Long-Term Vision
The patent milestone follows NeoSapien’s $2 million (₹18 crore) seed funding round led by Merak Ventures, with participation from angel investors including Anupam Mittal, Namita Thapar, and Sameer Mehta.
NeoSapien’s roadmap includes expanding into AI-powered glasses and rings, alongside launching the NeoCore SDK to enable third-party applications on its AI layer.
Evergreen Insight: IP-First Hardware Is Gaining Ground
As AI wearables evolve, startups that combine proprietary intelligence, strong IP protection, and hardware-led design will be better positioned to compete globally.
Founder Takeaway
NeoSapien’s patent underscores a key shift: for Indian AI startups, owning core technology is becoming as important as speed to market in emerging hardware categories.
