MapmyIndia’s flagship Mappls navigation app has expanded its capabilities by integrating multimodal public transport routing, enabling users to access metro, rail and bus information within a single platform. The update positions Mappls as a more comprehensive mobility solution by combining private and mass transit options for everyday trip planning.
The new feature enhances the experience for more than 40 million Mappls users, allowing commuters to view public transport routes, stations, stops and interchange options alongside existing navigation tools. Initially launched in select cities including Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru on iOS and web platforms, the company said an Android rollout is expected soon.
Mappls already includes features such as turn-by-turn navigation, real-time traffic updates, safety alerts and intelligent routing. The addition of public transport data aims to make journey planning more efficient and support increased use of mass transit systems. By integrating information on metro, rail and bus routes, Mappls seeks to encourage sustainable urban mobility, reduce traffic congestion and lower emissions in major cities.
MapmyIndia said the update reflects user feedback and its commitment to making the app more inclusive and accessible for everyday commuters. Rakesh Verma, Co-Founder, Chairman and Managing Director of MapmyIndia Mappls, described the feature as supporting smarter travel and aligning with evolving commuter needs.
As part of its broader strategy, MapmyIndia continues to align its mapping data with national standards and government guidelines, ensuring sensitive locations and international borders are appropriately delineated, a practice recognised at high levels of government. The company noted that its government business now contributes about 20 percent to its gross revenue.
Looking ahead, MapmyIndia plans to work with transport authorities and ecosystem partners to expand public transport coverage and enrich data across additional cities, further integrating mass transit into the Mappls navigation ecosystem.
