Underwater Infrastructure Inspection Is Going Robotic

India’s energy, ports, and defence infrastructure increasingly depends on underwater assets that are costly and risky to inspect manually. Ageing dams, offshore energy installations, ports, and naval assets are driving demand for robotic systems that can operate in deep, hazardous environments with higher accuracy and lower operational risk. This has positioned marine robotics as a critical layer in infrastructure and defence modernisation.

Funding Snapshot

Marine robotics startup EyeROV has raised ₹13 crore ($1.44 million) in a pre-Series A funding round co-invested by AWE Funds and Unicorn India Ventures.
The proceeds will be used to accelerate research and development, drive new product innovation, and expand EyeROV’s footprint across India and international markets.

What EyeROV Is Building

Founded in 2017, EyeROV operates in the marine robotics and underwater inspection segment. The company designs and deploys remotely operated vehicles (ROVs) and unmanned surface vessels (USVs) for applications across power, oil and gas, ports, infrastructure, and defence.

Its robotic platforms integrate advanced non-destructive testing payloads, including ultrasonic testing, sonar imaging, and AI-based inspection tools. These systems allow asset owners to assess structural integrity, detect defects, and plan maintenance without diver-led inspections, improving safety and reducing downtime.

Traction and Defence Push

EyeROV claims to have executed over 150 projects for more than 80 clients, including Tata Power, NHPC, Adani, ONGC, BPCL, and Maersk. Its government and defence customers include the Indian Navy, DRDO, and the Indian Coast Guard. The startup has also recently secured a ₹47 crore order from the Indian Navy, reinforcing its position in defence-linked deployments.

The company operates through a mix of direct product sales and a robotics-as-a-service (RaaS) model, enabling recurring revenue from long-term inspection contracts.

Why This Funding Matters

As India invests heavily in maritime infrastructure and naval capabilities, startups like EyeROV are becoming strategic suppliers of inspection and surveillance technology. The round highlights growing investor confidence in marine deeptech platforms that combine robotics, AI, and defence-grade execution.
