The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is holding a crucial meeting today, with senior government officials indicating that several major policy proposals may receive approval. If cleared, the set of reforms would represent one of the most extensive legislative moves of the government’s third term, impacting governance, energy, finance, and social welfare.

One of the most significant items on the agenda is the Census 2027 proposal. The exercise delayed since 2021 is expected to be approved, paving the way for updated demographic data that will be vital for policymaking, budget allocation, welfare programmes, and long term development planning. Officials say the fresh census will help recalibrate national strategies based on current population trends.

The Cabinet is also reviewing several key bills aimed at structural reform across core sectors. The Nuclear Energy Bill (Shanti Bill 2025) seeks to enhance India’s nuclear energy capacity by promoting sustainable expansion and technological innovation. The legislation is positioned as a critical driver of India’s clean energy goals and long-term energy security.

Another major proposal is the Insurance Sector Bill (Sabka Bima, Sabki Raksha Bill 2025), which aims to update and simplify insurance laws to expand citizen coverage and enhance consumer protection. In the financial sector, the Securities Market Code Bill 2025 is expected to consolidate three existing securities laws, improving regulatory clarity and strengthening market oversight.

In the social sector, the Pujya Bapu Rural Employment Guarantee Bill 2025 proposes strengthening the MGNREGA framework to boost rural employment and infrastructure development. Meanwhile, the Viksit Bharat Shiksha Adhisthan Bill 2025 aims to modernize India’s education system through governance reforms, digital integration, and improved learning outcomes.

If approved, this sweeping legislative package could significantly influence India’s development roadmap for the next decade, underscoring the government’s focus on modernization, inclusive growth, and institutional transformation.
