Amazon India Expands Health Benefits for 90,000 Delivery Workers

Amazon India has expanded health and insurance coverage for nearly 90,000 delivery associates across its operations network as part of broader efforts to strengthen worker welfare and logistics infrastructure.

The enhanced benefits package includes outpatient department (OPD) coverage for routine medical expenses, inpatient hospitalisation support, and compensation for temporary or permanent disabilities.

According to the company, the benefits are being rolled out across all last-mile delivery programmes to ensure coverage for both immediate healthcare needs and income loss arising from workplace injuries.

Under the revised policy structure:

  • Mediclaim coverage has been increased up to ₹1.5 lakh
  • OPD expenses of up to ₹10,000 are now covered
  • Group personal accident coverage has been expanded up to ₹10 lakh

The wellness programme also extends coverage to associates and up to three family members annually.

Additional benefits include unlimited multilingual virtual doctor consultations, two free in-person OPD visits per family every year, along with discounts on diagnostics, pharmacy, dental, and eye care services.

“We are also rolling out nationwide health camps offering free check-ups and preventive care,” said Salim Memon, Director Operations at Amazon India.

“These initiatives are part of our recent ₹2,800 crore investment to further strengthen associate well-being and scale our operations infrastructure across the country,” he added.

Amazon has also partnered with a third-party insurer to organise health camps for delivery associates across India.

The camps offer free services including eye examinations, dental check-ups, BMI assessments, general physician consultations, and preventive health screenings.

The initiative, which began in March this year, has already been rolled out across delivery stations in six cities and is expected to expand further into metro as well as Tier-II markets.

The camps also focus on identifying heat related health risks for delivery workers, an increasingly important concern amid rising temperatures and extreme weather conditions across India.

The move comes as large e-commerce and logistics companies intensify focus on gig worker welfare, healthcare access, and social security amid growing scrutiny around working conditions in the delivery ecosystem.

Amazon’s expanded benefits programme also reflects the broader trend of platform companies investing in workforce retention and operational sustainability as competition in e-commerce and quick commerce continues to rise.
