Electric vehicle and industrial motor startup Naxatra Labs has raised $3 million in a pre-Series A funding round led by Rainmatter, the venture investment arm of Zerodha, as the company looks to scale manufacturing and deepen its product portfolio amid rising electrification demand.
The round also saw participation from a group of prominent founders, operators and angel investors, including Mohit Tandon (Delhivery), Himanshu Aggarwal (Aspiring Minds), Vijay Shekhar Sharma (Paytm), Aloke Bajpai (Ixigo), Anupam Jalote (iCEM), Narayan (Ather Energy), Soumitra Sharma (Operators Studio) and Hemant Daga (Neo Assets), among others.
Founded by Piyush Verma, Abhilash Maurya and Arnav Biswas, Naxatra Labs designs and manufactures high-efficiency electric motors for electric vehicles and industrial applications. The company develops motors end-to-end, covering electromagnetic design, validation, testing and manufacturing.
Over the past four years, the startup has built a proprietary research and development stack and successfully transitioned multiple products from laboratory development to commercial-scale production. Its solutions cater to both EV and industrial use cases, where efficiency, reliability and cost competitiveness are critical.
The fresh capital will be used to accelerate development of new motor platforms, expand engineering and operations teams, and scale manufacturing capacity. Naxatra Labs also plans to strengthen its international footprint and gradually increase production capacity to around 50,000 motors per month.
Commenting on the funding, Abhilash Maurya, co-founder of Naxatra Labs, said the electric motor segment is benefiting from strong structural tailwinds. “Rapid electrification, demand for energy-efficient motors, and India’s emergence as a global manufacturing alternative are creating large opportunities. This funding will help us expand product lines, grow our team, and significantly scale production,” he said.
The investment highlights growing investor interest in deep-tech EV supply chain startups, as India pushes for localisation and advanced manufacturing in the clean mobility ecosystem.
