Foxconn’s Bengaluru iPhone Plant Adds 30,000 Jobs in Under a Year

0

Apple supplier Foxconn has carried out an unprecedented workforce expansion at its upcoming iPhone manufacturing facility near Bengaluru, hiring nearly 30,000 employees within nine months of starting operations. The rapid scale-up is being seen as one of the fastest hiring drives ever recorded at a single manufacturing site in India.

The factory, located in Devanahalli, spans close to 300 acres and has quickly emerged as a major employment centre. Notably, around 80% of the workforce comprises women, largely in the 19–24 age group, many of whom are entering formal employment for the first time. The scale of hiring has also attracted workers from several neighbouring states, underlining the plant’s growing regional significance.

Production Expansion Underway

Manufacturing activity at the facility began with trial runs around April–May, initially assembling the iPhone 16. Production has since progressed to Apple’s latest flagship model, the iPhone 17 Pro Max. A large majority of devices assembled at the Bengaluru unit are shipped to international markets, reinforcing India’s expanding role in Apple’s global supply chain.

Foxconn expects total employment at the site to reach around 50,000 workers once full-scale operations begin next year.

Township-Style Infrastructure

To support the expanding workforce, Foxconn is developing the site as a self-sustained industrial campus. Multiple dormitories are already operational, with additional residential blocks under construction. The long-term blueprint includes healthcare facilities, educational infrastructure and recreational spaces. Workers are provided free accommodation and subsidised meals, while average monthly earnings are estimated at about ₹18,000, competitive for manufacturing roles.

Strategic Boost for India

With an investment of nearly ₹20,000 crore, the Devanahalli unit is expected to become India’s largest iPhone manufacturing facility by both scale and employment. Industry observers say the project reflects the success of India’s manufacturing push and its deepening integration into global electronics supply chains.
