Wealthtech platform Groww accounted for 43.6% of new systematic investment plan (SIP) registrations in India during the July–September quarter of 2026, highlighting its growing presence in the country’s retail mutual fund investment market. The company also reported a sharp increase in direct mutual fund assets held through its platform, as it continues to expand its wealth management business.
According to a report by The Economic Times, Groww’s direct mutual fund assets increased 45.9% year-on-year to ₹2.06 lakh crore at the end of September 2026. The assets also grew 7.8% from approximately ₹1.9 lakh crore at the end of June, a company spokesperson said.
The figures underline Groww’s growing role in attracting investors to mutual funds through digital investment services, particularly as systematic investing continues to gain traction among Indian households.
Groww Strengthens Its Position in SIP Registrations
SIPs allow investors to invest a fixed amount in mutual funds at regular intervals, helping them build investments over time rather than committing a large sum at once. Their recurring structure has made them an important channel for retail participation in the mutual fund industry.
Groww’s reported 43.6% share refers specifically to new SIP registrations during the September quarter. It should not be interpreted as the platform’s share of all active SIP accounts, total industry contributions or overall mutual fund assets.
The figure nevertheless highlights the platform’s ability to attract new investors and encourage them to begin systematic investments. Digital platforms have made it easier for customers to discover mutual fund schemes, complete onboarding and establish recurring investment plans through a single interface.
For Groww, attracting new SIP registrations also creates opportunities to build longer-term customer relationships, although retaining investors and sustaining contributions remain important measures of future performance.
Direct Mutual Fund Assets Reach ₹2.06 Lakh Crore
Alongside its new registration numbers, Groww reported substantial growth in direct mutual fund assets held through its platform.
The assets reached ₹2.06 lakh crore at the end of September, representing a 45.9% increase from the year-ago period. On a sequential basis, the total rose 7.8% from approximately ₹1.9 lakh crore in June.
The increase points to the expanding scale of Groww’s mutual fund business. Asset growth can reflect several factors, including fresh investments, additional contributions from existing customers and changes in the market value of portfolios. The reported figures do not separately quantify the contribution of each factor.
As its assets grow, the platform’s ability to provide accessible investment services and maintain customer engagement will remain relevant to its longer-term expansion.
India’s SIP Market Continues to Expand
Groww’s performance comes amid continued participation in systematic mutual fund investing across India.
Industry data reported by The Economic Times showed that mutual fund SIP registrations continued to exceed closures in September 2026. The month recorded 63.26 lakh new SIP registrations against 49.68 lakh SIPs that were discontinued or completed their tenure. Monthly SIP contributions also reached a record ₹32,490 crore.
These figures indicate sustained investor participation despite market volatility. However, new registrations, active SIP accounts and actual contribution amounts measure different aspects of the market and should be assessed separately.
For investment platforms, the opportunity extends beyond acquiring customers. Helping investors remain engaged with their financial goals and continue their contributions can be equally important to building a sustainable mutual fund business.
Groww Pushes Further Into Wealth Management
Groww is building its mutual fund operations alongside a broader push into wealth management, according to the company information reported by The Economic Times. Its growing base of direct mutual fund assets provides an important part of that business as the platform continues to develop its investment offerings.
The broader opportunity lies in serving customers across different stages of their investment journeys, from making their first mutual fund investment to managing larger portfolios over time. For digital wealth platforms, scale can support customer acquisition, but long-term growth also depends on trust, service quality and sustained engagement.
Outlook
Groww’s reported share of new SIP registrations and the expansion of its direct mutual fund assets highlight its position in India’s increasingly digital investment ecosystem.
The next phase of growth will depend not only on attracting new investors but also on retaining customers, supporting consistent investment behaviour and expanding its wealth management services.
As systematic investing continues to play a significant role in retail participation, Groww’s ability to convert new registrations into lasting investor relationships will be an important indicator of the strength of its mutual fund business.
