Salesforce Consumed 12 Trillion AI Tokens, Says AI Won’t Replace Humans

Global software giant Salesforce consumed more than 12 trillion AI tokens last year as it rapidly expanded agentic AI use cases across its operations, according to the company’s Chief Digital Evangelist Vala Afshar.

Afshar said the company’s AI usage is accelerating so quickly that the total token consumption recorded in the previous year could be surpassed within just the first two months of this year.

Despite the rapid rise of artificial intelligence adoption, Afshar emphasized that AI is unlikely to replace humans entirely. Instead, he described AI agents as tools designed to eliminate repetitive and low-impact work, allowing employees to focus on more strategic and customer-facing roles.

According to him, Salesforce redeployed around 3,000 employees into its sales operations. These were not new hires but employees who had earlier been engaged in repetitive workflows that are now increasingly being automated through AI agents.

The comments come at a time when enterprises worldwide are aggressively integrating generative AI and autonomous AI agents into business workflows to improve productivity, automate customer interactions, and reduce operational inefficiencies.

Salesforce has emerged as one of the leading enterprise software companies investing heavily in agentic AI systems, embedding AI-powered assistants across customer relationship management (CRM), sales, marketing, and service operations.

The company has consistently argued that AI will augment human productivity rather than fully replace the workforce, even as concerns around automation-driven job displacement continue to rise globally.

The rapid increase in AI token consumption also highlights the growing computational scale of enterprise AI adoption as businesses move beyond pilot projects toward full-scale deployments.
