Sindhuja Microcredit has raised $5 million (around ₹47 crore) in a pre-Series D funding round from existing investors including Abler Nordic, GAWA Capital through the Huruma Fund, and Oikocredit.

The Noida based NBFC-MFI said the fresh capital will be used to strengthen its capital base, expand lending operations, and improve access to credit for underserved communities, particularly women entrepreneurs and MSMEs.

Founded by Abhisheka Kumar and Malkit Singh Didyala, Sindhuja Microcredit provides financial services to self employed women entrepreneurs, traders, shopkeepers, and farmers across rural and semi urban markets.

According to the company, it has served more than 5 lakh borrowers across 12 states over the past eight years. The NBFC currently operates through 366 branches and manages assets worth over ₹1,100 crore.

Sindhuja primarily focuses on financially underserved borrowers in rural and remote regions through joint liability group (JLG) loans and individual lending products.

The company has steadily attracted institutional investors over the years. It first raised Series A funding from Carpediem Capital, followed by Series B funding during the Covid-19 period. In 2023, it secured a pre-Series C round led by Abler Nordic with participation from Carpediem Capital.

Its Series C funding round in 2024 was led by Huruma Fund, managed by GAWA Capital, alongside participation from Oikocredit.

The latest funding comes at a time when India’s microfinance sector is showing signs of recovery after a prolonged slowdown, supported by improving asset quality, tighter underwriting standards, and rising credit demand in rural markets.

NBFC-MFIs continue to play a crucial role in expanding financial inclusion by providing small ticket loans to borrowers who often remain outside the reach of traditional banking institutions.
