Prime Minister Narendra Modi will begin a two-day visit to Assam to inaugurate and launch development projects worth around ₹47,600 crore across Kokrajhar, Guwahati and Silchar.

The visit comes ahead of the Assam Assembly elections expected in April and marks Modi’s fourth trip to the state in the past four months.

Projects Across Three Cities

The Prime Minister will start his visit in Kokrajhar, where projects worth more than ₹4,570 crore will be launched. These include the bhoomi poojan for Assam Mala 3.0, a road development initiative worth ₹3,200 crore aimed at building over 900 km of roads across the state.

He will also perform the foundation ceremony for four flyovers and two bridges in the Bodoland Territorial Council region, projects worth around ₹1,100 crore designed to ease traffic congestion.

Additionally, Modi will lay the foundation stone for a Periodic Overhauling (POH) railway workshop at Bashbari, which is expected to strengthen railway maintenance infrastructure and create employment.

Major Announcements in Guwahati

Later in Guwahati, projects worth around ₹19,480 crore will be launched. Key highlights include:

  • Inauguration of the ₹2,300-crore Kopili Hydro-Electric Project in Dima Hasao and West Karbi Anglong districts
  • Capacity expansion of the Numaligarh–Siliguri Product Pipeline by Oil India Limited to support expansion of Numaligarh Refinery from 3 MMTPA to 9 MMTPA

Several railway electrification projects and the Furkating–Tinsukia rail line doubling project (₹3,600 crore) will also be announced.

Infrastructure Push in Silchar

On the second day, Modi will visit Silchar to initiate projects worth ₹23,550 crore. The centerpiece is the 166-km Shillong–Silchar four-lane greenfield corridor, valued at ₹22,860 crore, which aims to significantly reduce travel time between Guwahati and Silchar.

Other projects include an elevated corridor on NH-306 and the foundation stone for a new College of Agriculture at Patharkandi in Karimganj district.

PM-KISAN Support

During the visit, Modi will also release the 22nd instalment of the PM-KISAN scheme, benefiting more than 93 million farmers across the country.
