ONDC Appoints Vibhor Jain as Managing Director and CEO

0

The Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) has appointed Vibhor Jain as its new Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, effective April 7, 2026.

Jain had earlier been serving as ONDC’s Chief Operating Officer and was acting CEO during the recent leadership transition.

Full-Time Leadership Transition

With this appointment, ONDC formally moves into a full-time leadership structure as it enters its next phase of expansion. Jain’s elevation comes at a critical time when the government-backed digital commerce initiative is focused on scaling its interoperable network across multiple sectors.

Leadership Continuity After Key Exits

The appointment follows a series of leadership changes at ONDC:

  • Former MD & CEO Thampy Koshy stepped down in April last year after serving three years.
  • Independent director Arvind Gupta resigned two months later.

Jain’s appointment is expected to bring continuity and operational stability as ONDC strengthens its ecosystem.

ONDC’s Expanding Role in Digital Commerce

Launched as a government-backed initiative, ONDC aims to democratize ecommerce by enabling buyers and sellers to transact seamlessly across interoperable platforms instead of being restricted to a single marketplace.

The network is designed to:

  • Reduce platform monopolies
  • Enable wider seller participation
  • Increase digital commerce accessibility for small businesses

Strategic Focus Ahead

As Managing Director and CEO, Vibhor Jain will lead ONDC’s next growth phase, with priorities likely centered on:

  • Expanding merchant and buyer adoption
  • Strengthening partner integrations
  • Scaling ONDC’s presence across retail, mobility, logistics, and services sectors

His elevation signals ONDC’s intent to sharpen execution as India’s open digital commerce ecosystem gains momentum.
