Ola Electric has received government certification for its flagship electric motorcycle, the Roadster X+, powered by the company’s in-house developed 4680 Bharat Cell battery pack. The approval marks a key milestone for Ola Electric as it becomes the first electric motorcycle in India to be certified with an indigenously developed 4680-format battery cell.
In an exchange filing, the company said the Roadster X+ (9.1 kWh) has been approved under the Central Motor Vehicle Rules (CMVR), 1989, by the International Centre for Automotive Technology (iCAT), Manesar. Following the certification, Ola Electric will commence deliveries of the Roadster X+ model.
According to the company, the certification underscores its push towards end-to-end electric vehicle technology developed and manufactured in India. With this approval, Ola Electric is deploying its indigenous cell and battery technology across its two-wheeler portfolio, covering both electric scooters and motorcycles.
“The government certification of the Roadster X+ is a major milestone in our journey to build full-stack EV technology in India,” an Ola Electric spokesperson said, adding that the motorcycle offers superior range, performance, safety, and reliability powered entirely by Ola’s own battery technology.
The Roadster X+ cleared a comprehensive set of regulatory tests prescribed by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH), including constructional and functional safety, range, gradeability, braking performance, electromagnetic compatibility (EMC), and environmental compliance.
Separately, Ola Electric’s 9.1 kWh high-energy-density battery pack, built using its 4680 Bharat Cells, also received certification from the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) under AIS-156 Amendment 4. The battery pack successfully passed safety and durability tests, including thermal runaway, fire safety, water immersion, vibration, and mechanical shock assessments.
Earlier this month, Ola Electric ramped up deliveries of its 4680 Bharat Cell-powered S1 Pro+ scooter across multiple southern states, further strengthening its presence in India’s fast-growing electric two-wheeler market.
