The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has identified 100 cities across India for its newly launched City Accelerator Program, aimed at fast-tracking rooftop solar adoption under the PM Surya Ghar Yojana. Among the selected locations, Jaipur, Jodhpur, Ajmer and Udaipur from Rajasthan have secured a place, marking a significant step in strengthening the state’s renewable energy roadmap.
A senior official from the Rajasthan energy department confirmed the development, stating that the program will focus on expanding awareness, improving consumer outreach and training local vendors to support large-scale rooftop solar uptake. The initiative intends to simplify the installation process for households while ensuring that certified vendors are well-equipped to deliver reliable and cost-effective solar solutions.
Implemented in collaboration with the Shakti Sustainable Energy Foundation, the City Accelerator Program will help participating cities develop structured strategies to promote residential solar systems. This includes community engagement activities, data-led planning, and capacity-building measures designed to remove adoption barriers and enhance the overall efficiency of the scheme.
Rajasthan, already recognized as a renewable energy frontrunner, is expected to benefit considerably from the program. The selected cities—each with high urban energy demand will receive targeted support to increase rooftop solar penetration, reduce household electricity costs, and contribute to India’s broader mission of accelerating clean energy deployment.
With the PM Surya Ghar Yojana aiming to empower one crore households through rooftop solar installations, MNRE’s city-level intervention is poised to become a key driver of nationwide energy transition. The inclusion of four major Rajasthan cities reinforces the state’s commitment to sustainable growth and positions it as a vital contributor to India’s renewable energy ambitions
