Global hospitality company Hyatt Hotels Corporation has appointed Vikas Chawla as President for India and Southwest Asia, effective April 1. The move reflects Hyatt’s push to strengthen leadership as it expands rapidly in one of its fastest-growing markets.
Chawla will report to David Udell, who leads the company’s Asia Pacific operations. In his new role, Chawla will oversee Hyatt’s regional strategy, business performance, and growth initiatives across India and Southwest Asia.
A Hyatt spokesperson confirmed that the leadership change is part of the company’s broader strategy to reinforce its long-term ambitions in the region. A formal announcement with further details is expected soon.
India Remains a Key Growth Market
India has emerged as a priority market for Hyatt’s global expansion. The hotel chain aims to grow its presence to 100 properties in India within the next five years. Currently, Hyatt operates more than 50 hotels in the country, spanning several of its global brands.
The company has also seen strong business momentum. In 2024, Hyatt recorded double digit growth in key performance metrics, including hotel signings and RevPAR (revenue per available room). Earlier data showed RevPAR growth of 33% year-on-year in 2023, highlighting strong recovery in travel and hospitality demand.
Hyatt is also strengthening its lifestyle portfolio in India, with brands such as Andaz and JdV by Hyatt expected to drive future expansion.
Leadership Background
Before joining Hyatt, Chawla led the India operations of Compass Group, one of the world’s largest food services companies. He also founded the healthy beverage brand Raskik, which was later acquired by Reliance Industries.
Earlier in his career, Chawla spent nearly two decades with The Coca-Cola Company, where he held senior leadership roles across India and Southeast Europe.
With extensive experience across consumer brands, food services, and leadership roles, Chawla is expected to help accelerate Hyatt’s expansion strategy and strengthen its market position in the region.
