Groww Launches Web-Based Emergency Trading Portal After Recent Cloudflare Outage

Indian online stockbroking platform Groww has launched Groww Lite, a web-based emergency trading portal aimed at helping users protect their positions during platform outages, internet disruptions, or technical glitches. The move is designed to offer traders a critical fallback option during volatile market hours when access to the primary trading app or website may be disrupted.

According to the company, Groww Lite enables users to square off or exit existing open positions even if the main Groww platform becomes temporarily inaccessible. The portal acts as a fail safe trading channel, allowing users to manage risk during unexpected system failures.

Built After Recent Market Disruptions

The launch follows a series of recent internet and cloud-related outages, including a Cloudflare-linked disruption in early December that affected multiple trading platforms such as Groww, Zerodha’s Kite, and Angel One. During that incident, several users faced login issues and were unable to execute trades amid sharp market movements, highlighting the risks associated with platform dependency during critical trading windows.

Groww said these events reinforced the need for a resilient, independent backup system to ensure uninterrupted access to essential trading functions.

Separate Infrastructure, Limited Scope

Groww Lite is a secure, browser-based portal that can be accessed via desktop or mobile devices without installing any app. Importantly, it operates on a separate DNS and routing infrastructure, bypassing standard routing layers and Cloudflare dependencies. This architecture reduces reliance on third-party cloud services, allowing the portal to remain operational even if the core platform faces disruptions.

However, Groww clarified that Groww Lite is not a full-featured trading platform. Users cannot place new trades through the portal; it is limited strictly to managing or closing existing positions. The company described it as a secondary safety layer, not a replacement for its primary app and website.

Focus on Platform Reliability

“We are continuously working to make our core platforms even more robust. Groww Lite is designed as a safety layer for our users something they hopefully never need, but can rely on completely when they do,” the company said.

The launch underscores a growing industry focus on platform resilience and risk mitigation, as retail participation in Indian capital markets continues to rise and trading activity becomes increasingly digital dependent.
