The central government is likely to open a new round of bidding to onboard around 12,000–15,000 advanced graphic processing units (GPUs) from Nvidia under the IndiaAI Mission, according to sources.
The upcoming bidding round will focus on Nvidia’s latest B100 and B200 GPUs, which are based on the company’s cutting-edge Blackwell architecture. A senior government official said a fresh tender is required to discover new L1 prices for these next-generation GPUs.
“The GPUs that were bid for in the first round will continue to be onboarded under the IndiaAI Mission at the L1 prices already discovered. However, a separate bidding process is needed for the latest technology GPUs,” the official added.
The move signals the government’s intent to rapidly scale high-performance computing capacity to support India’s artificial intelligence ecosystem. The IndiaAI Mission aims to provide affordable access to advanced compute infrastructure for startups, researchers and enterprises building AI models and applications.
Nvidia’s B100 and B200 GPUs are designed for large-scale AI training and inference workloads, offering significantly higher performance and energy efficiency compared to earlier generations. Their inclusion is expected to strengthen India’s domestic AI capabilities and reduce reliance on overseas compute resources.
If finalised, the new bidding round would mark one of the largest government-led procurements of advanced AI computing hardware in the country, reinforcing India’s push to become a global AI hub.
