Blinkit vs Zepto: The Battle Heats Up as Blinkit Unveils Bistro

0

Zomato’s Blinkit steps into quick food delivery, challenging Zepto, Swiggy, and Mukesh Ambani’s ambitions in the fast-evolving market.

The race to dominate India’s quick commerce market has taken an exciting turn with Zomato-owned Blinkit launching its new app, Bistro, dedicated to ultra-fast food delivery. Moving beyond its grocery delivery roots, Blinkit is now targeting meals, snacks, and beverages like tea and coffee, promising delivery in under 15 minutes.

What Makes Bistro Stand Out?

Currently in its pilot phase, Bistro is operational in select areas of Gurugram, with plans to expand further. The app aims to combine speed, convenience, and quality, setting new benchmarks in the quick food delivery segment.
Zepto Cafe pioneered this category in 2022, delivering food items within 10 minutes. The company is now expanding to 120 cities and launching a standalone app.
Swiggy Cafe has also entered the game, piloting a similar model focused on snacks and beverages.

Reports suggest that Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance Retail is preparing to disrupt the space with its quick delivery initiative, aiming for 10–30-minute delivery times.

New Players Add to the Competition

Startups like Swish and Zing have also joined the market with innovative models and funding from major investors. Swish recently raised $2 million, while Zing launched its own 10-minute food delivery service.

Blinkit’s Broader Strategy

This move aligns with Blinkit’s vision to diversify and strengthen its operations. Recent innovations include:
• Piloting large-order fleets for select items.
• Offering EMI options for higher-value purchases.

Blinkit’s financial growth reflects the impact of these strategies. The company reported a 124% year-on-year revenue increase in Q2 FY25, reaching ₹1,156 crore, while narrowing its EBITDA loss to ₹8 crore.

The Road Ahead

As competition escalates, the quick food delivery market is becoming a key battleground in the larger quick commerce ecosystem. With Bistro, Blinkit is not only keeping pace with rivals like Zepto and Swiggy but also preparing for the potential disruption from Reliance Retail.
